touchscreen dead/unresponsive

Yesterday after plugging my 830 out from my laptop, the device was not reacting to any touch inputs:

The buttons were working fine (power button, start/stop), the device was still looking for and connecting to sensors; phone/wifi sync was not impacted. But I wasn't able to control the device via touchscreen.
Reseting/restarting the device (10s power button) did not help.

I faced this behaviour one time before, after installing GPS chipset beta 2.42. Touchscreen wasn't taking any inputs, but otherwise the edge was working fine. I was ready to ship my unit back, but at this time firmware 3.41b was available and I figured it couldn't hurt to try flashing this beta version. After flashing & rebooting the device was working again.

But yesterday out of the blue (no firmware flashing, just charging & normal sync of biometric data via garmin express) after unplugging the edge from my laptop, touch input went dead again.
I could fix this with downgrading to the old GPS firmware & updating again to 2.42b.

current versions:

firmware 3.50
GPS 2.42
WLAN: 2.10
CIQ: 3.0.8

Garmin Express: 6.15.0.0

Mac OS 10.14.2
