Can I set the speed to resume the timer when restarting?

I have Auto Pause set to "When stopped," which logically pauses the timer when I stop moving.  However, when I start moving again, the 830 will not resume the timer until I hit 3.5 mph.  Is this speed adjustable?  When I am mountain biking and climbing a steep incline, I often won't hit 3.5 mph after coming out of a stop until I reach a flatter section.  3.5 mph seems a bit too fast in this case.

  • Just an idea: if you select "Custom Speed" for Auto Pause what value do you get? If it's 3.5 mph it might be linked to this setting, even if it's not active.

  • I have not found "When stopped" to work satisfactorily for me.  It will sometimes pause while still moving or doesn't resume reasonably quickly after starting to move.   I simply set and use a Custom Speed of 3 mph which I find to work reliably when using a wheel sensor.  3.5 or 4 if relying on GPS.

I easily recognize when I'm stopped but IDK what criteria, thresholds and algorithm the unit uses to decide when to pause and resume.

  • It will depend on what source you are using for speed. If you are using an external speed sensor then "When stopped" should work well. I can imagine that if you are using GPS for speed that it might take a little longer to recognize that you are stopped or have started moving again due to having to filter out noise in your position.

  • I wasn't totally clear.  I said  " I simply set and use a Custom Speed of 3 mph which I find to work reliably when using a wheel sensor.  3.5 or 4 if relying on GPS."  This implies that the problem persists when using a wheel sensor, though doesn't say so explicitly.  I'll add the problem with "When stopped" erratically sensing stopping and starting  is still there using a wheel sensor.

  • I am using an external speed sensor.  So it should know pretty easily when I've resumed moving.  Once I reach the speed of 3.5 mph, the timer resumes, but if I drop below 3.5, it continues recording.  It will not pause again until I've completely stopped.  So I don't understand why the 3.5 mph trigger.
