Can I use my Apple Watch as a heart rate monitor with my Edge 830?

I'd like to be able to use my Apple Watch as the heart rate sensor with my Edge 830.  Is this possible?

Thanks,

Keith

  • For me this doesn't help. I need an additional piece of hardware. So I can wear a wahoo Tickr i.e., if I don't like a chest strap. That is what I am doing.
What I need is to get rid of addtional hardware as the Apple watch already servs it.

  • Thanks.  I saw that I had to give it access to everything including workouts when I set it up or it wouldn’t display the heart rate.

  • I did a quick check. for me bad implementation.

    -   Watch app needs phone app running

    -   AD implementation is a pain

    -   It like to access health without a choice.

    -  Even watching the AD I was not able to connect the watch app to phone app. So can't test it

    -  Finally - if I would be able to test it properly I would be willing to pay 5€ but not 10€

I just need it purely to broadcast the hearrate without anything else. That should be possible. Better test implementation would be to limit the broadcast to 15 or 30 min.

  • After a couple rides it looks like the Hearbeatz works quite well.  It would be nice if the Edge or at least Garmin connect could get the heart rate directly from the Apple Watch but since it can’t this is a better solution than a watch and a chest strap.

  • Does this work when the Apple Watch is recording an activity on the Apple Watch too? Or can you only be running the HeartBeatz app?

I bought the npe device, heartbeatz, it's not worth the expense - i just threw it away brand new because it wouldn't connect. Tried to change the battery and some of the components came apart...it's a SUPER cheaply made device that doesn't work. Also paid crazy tax to have it delivered to the UK...not a good thing

  • Don’t know.  I typically record my ride on my Garmin.  But sitting on my sofa I just started the heartbeatz app on my watch, then started a cycling activity and the heart rate showed on my Garmin.   So I guess the answer is yes.  I have no idea how much it loads the watch battery though. Or what the recorded stats look like.

I would check with them whether this use case is supported.  Their support seems decent.

  • Have used heartbeatz for 8 months now. It works very well. Just pocket it, and the 820/830 will recieve Heartbeat from the apple watch.
