iPhone drain

Finally got my 830 and tried it for a ride yesterday.  All in all I'm pretty impressed compared to my 800.  I did a ride without navigation though.  I'm trying that tomorrow.

What I noticed though was that after a 3 hour ride my iPhone 6s went from 100% battery to 47%.  Looking at the battery stats on the phone it was mostly Garmin Connect.  Is this normal?

Also, I noticed that if I lose the phone connection and go to Garmin Connect to sync it doesn't timeout on syncing the 830 and the battery drains quickly.

  • I noticed the same thing on my iPhone 8s and 830. I was following a Strava route that gave verbal commands at turns, and I was out for 6 hours or so, but was very surprised to see iphone batter drop from 98% when I left to 14% when I got home.  The 830 was still at 80% or so, so it didn't use up much batter at all.
