Turning Off

Twice recently when I have turned my 830 off via the power button & choosing “Power Off” post-ride a power logo (circle with a line, similar to a “Q”) appears on the screen and nothing I do will reawaken the 830. A 10 second press of the power button is needed to reset the unit.

This only seems to happen following a ride where I’ve experienced a sensor drop-out issue, and on rides where the sensors have remained connected throughout the unit turns off and back on without issue.

Any idea what’s going on, is this operator error or something to do with the sensor drop-outs?

Garmin are aware of this issue as I reported it the other day. They reported they were working on fix for it. As you say it is linked to the chip not resetting correctly after as sensor drop.

Does anyone including Garmin know why some people experiences sensor drops while others don't? I fall into the 'don't' camp and wish to know what causes the drops. Thanks.

I wonder whether the drop-outs only occur when using navigation? I’ve only used the 830 for four rides so far, but the two I’ve been using route navigation I’ve suffered drop-outs and the two I’ve just been riding along following my nose the 830 has behaved itself.

FWIW I've not had any sensor drops when I'm using navigation and when I'm not. But I never ride with my phone as I wear an Apple Watch. But others have reported drops without being connected to their phones. So there's no apparent common denominator that I can tell.

Thiis kind of thing has happened to me. Twice now I have found the device dead before a ride. One of those times the screen was blank so I thought it was off but evidently it was not. This is nearly a year later since your post. Has it stopped happening for you?

My 830 has been fine since the firmware update ages ago, no further issues with either drop-outs or turn-on. It’s now the best bike computer I’ve owned

I too faced the same issue today. I am on 5.20 version of the firmware
