Bad routes created by Garmin Connect Course

I've tried several times on app, road cycling type, round trip, from 20km to 50km, always leading me onto unpaved roads, and even mud and grass which the XC/gravel maybe interested in.

  • I actually had opposite experience - when I had routing configured as "mixed surfaces" or whatever it is called, the unit was very often pushing me to go to main roads instead of staying on dedicated cycling path... When I ignored the turn now prompt, unit recalculated and let me ride on the cycling path to next possible exit. Head bandage

  • Haha I feel you. Recently I got sent to a hiking trail (for road cycling).

My tip: Try komoot for routing.

  • Same situation here. Regardless of whether I plan a route on the device (Edge 830, mixed surfaces) or via Garmin Connect web. Heatmaps turned off and regardless of the map that I preset. The routing is just really sub-par. Good to observe when you try that on well knows routes.
I'll stick with Komoot and direct transfer to the the Edge via the Garmin connect app.
