How to add a waypoint/POI to an active route?

Isn't it possible to add a waypoint or a nearby POI to a currently active route?

The workaround would be to stop the current route, navigate to the POI, and afterwards load the previous route again. :/

Can anyone please provide an answer to this question? I'd also like to use the Garmin Edge to explore my surroundings.

I don't think you can edit an active route.

I use Dynamic Watch to build my routes and you can easily add a POI to a route on my phone, then load the modified route through their widget. As long as you don't ask the Garmin to route you to the beginning of the ride, it should work out that you are mid-way on your route and continue routing you to the POI. I've used this feature several times.

The other option as you say is to stop your current route, route to your POI and then reload the old route when you arrive at the POI. The recalculation algorithm should get you back reasonably quickly to the old route.

I think I know what you're asking about as I've seen that on in-car GPS systems but I've never seen it on the Edge.
