Garmin 830 calculates a way to long route.

Today I wanted to navigate the quickest route from my current position to Wesel railway station (which is about 45 km).

So I created a course via the Course Creator. There I chose the railway station from the list POIs and let the Garmin calculated the shortest route. This is the result:

131 km. Is this a bug? I don't understand how it comes up with this route. If I choose the city Wesel instead of the Wesel railway station POI, it calculates the expected short route.

This problem will be resolved in a future update that is planned for early July.

Worst mapping software ever!. You are not alone. I sent them my fit files and they concluded it was working correctly. Such BS. Creates crazy nonsensical routes when you can just go straight. Also sends me down trails when I set it to avoid them. Really can't rely on the device.

You're absolutely correct. I get routed onto the freeway with my settings set to avoid major highways. It also does not find the shortest route when I have that option selected.

It's interesting that Garmin Connect does a much better job of routing. Garmin should use those routing algorithms on the Edge devices.

Routing is indeed horrible. Living in the Netherlands with excellent cycling path data it still fails to calculate something close to a normal route.

I gave up on garmin maps. Installed osm map, there routing actually works as intended.

So, the issues is with Garmin's map data rather than the device's routing?
