Transitioning from Edge 520 Question

Hi guys,

I'm expecting to receive my new Edge 830 today and I want to be able to use it for my workout later today (shortly after it arrives).  Is it still 'safe' to manually go onto my Edge 520 and grab certain key files to transfer over (locations, settings, sports, totals, etc) so my data screens, user info, zones, etc transfer over to the new Edge 830 quickly?  I want to hit the ground running and don't want to waste a bunch of time recreating the screens.

Does this get complicated if I have a few IQ apps installed for data fields?  I have the 'Heart Rate Stress Score' and 'Max HR' IQ Apps that I have installed and use as fields, for example.

Thanks in advance for the help.  I'm looking forward to going back to a touch screen again!

Sean

  • Sean, I've had great experiences so far on my 830, I'm sure you'll love it.  Unfortunately you don't want to manually copy files over from your 520 to the 830, you'll end up with a malfunction of the unit.  Your zones should copy right over from your personal info in your Garmin Connect app, but expect to manually set up the rest of your settings.

  • Thanks for the reply.  Does that include locations too?  I've usually just copied the locations.fit file along with the settings.fit file over from unit to unit with no drama.  The settings should just configure my data fields (or perhaps that was sports?).  I'm not looking forward to rebuilding all the screens for each profile-that's going to be unpleasant and slow if I have to go that route...

Glad to hear you are enjoying the 830!  I'm really looking forward to a bit of a nicer screen (and hopefully a little larger-my eyes are getting older), and definitely more speed with the processor (and better battery life too!).
