What does the "show elevation profile" switch under Map options do?

In the options for the Map screen, there is a switch for "show elevation profile" - I've turned this option on, but I can't see anything that looks as if it has anything to do with elevation on the map screen. What effect does this switch have? I was expecting to see some sort of graphical representation of elevation on the map screen, but it's very subtle if it is there!

It will also depend greatly on the map zoom level, the more you are zoomed in the flatter the elevation plot will look.

I raised an enhancement request with Garmin to support additional screen layout options…

This is used when following a course. It will show the elevation profile, scaled to the map scale and your position on that profile.

Oh, I saw that. I had mostly flat route, so it kinda looked useless.

I raised an enhancement request with Garmin to support additional screen layout options. One being to increase the elevation plot size by taking over the space of the 2 data fields. E.g. a 50/50 split between the map and the elevation profile. The existing layout options would be retained.

I always use auto-zoom, and I prefer not to fiddle too much when riding
