Using MARQ with the Edge 830

I was wondering how, and if at all, wearing my MARQ Expedition during cycling, while recording/routing etc on my Edge 830 impacts the following:.

-calories expenditure

-intensity minutes

-body battery

-training status

To clarify, my watch was switched on but wasn't recording the ride.

I had a look at Firstbeat's website but didn't find much by way of a reference to the above. Any views?

Cheers,

Nick

  •  any input would be greatly appreciated- thanks!

  • Hi

Thanks for tagging me. That makes it so much easier for me to spot things I might be able to answer. Although, I'm not sure I can be of a tremendous amount of help in this particular situation, because I think what you are asking is a bit more on the Garmin engineering side of things.

That said, VO2max, Training Load, Training Status, Training Load Focus, Aerobic/Anaerobic Training Effects (basically the set of 'during activity' and 'training management' insights) are only coming from the device that you use to record the activity. Garmin's PhysioTrueUP (support.garmin.com/.../ should work it's magic from there.

Body Battery should, I think, work the same way - but I'm not exactly sure of how it's integrated together across multiple Garmin devices. Your Edge doesn't have the All-day Stress / Body Battery feature your MARQ has… and physical activity drains your Body Battery based on the intensity (low-, moderate-, high-) of your activity - as opposed to the charging/discharging of Body Battery driven by the hrv-based All-day Stress tracking feature.

What I would, perhaps naively, expect is that in the situation you describe that Body Battery is being driven entirely with your MARQ - although, I guess in theory, that the intensity data from your Edge might be fed into it... but that seems like a complicated way to do it.

  • Hey, thanks for the prompt follow-up! I guess tagging you really did do the trick:)

I see what you mean- I would be very interested to see Garmin's response on this one. Going by the Body Battery depletion graph in Garmin Connect, it would seem that there was a marked decrease after my ride.

However, I would imagine that this has to do with the watch picking up heightened heart rate readings much more so than GC somehow evaluating my ride's impact on Body Battery values. The real test would be not wearing the MARQ or switching it off altogether during the ride.
