Syncing activities from 830 to GC via iPhone

I’ve noticed the past couple of rides that when I finish my ride, it is not syncing to Garmin Connect via the Bluetooth connection to my iPhone. It works fine via the WiFi connection from the 830 to my home WiFi but to trigger that, I have to temporarily put my iPhone into flight mode as I believe that Bluetooth is the primary connection method.

Anyone else notice this?

All other 830<>iPhone bluetooth functions are working fine (notifications etc) and my 830 i on v3.20 and my iPhone is the latest iOS version 12.3.1.

I haven’t ride syncing a ride via Bluetooth when I have the WiFi option turned off. May try that tomorrow if I remember.

I have an Edge 530 and having similar issue. Occasionally - perhaps it's all the time - when the 530 is connected to phone via Bluetooth and also connected to a WiFi network, it won't upload the new ride via the GC app. I have to disable Bluetooth in the 530 and then force the 530 to upload all new rides via WiFi, bypassing the GC app, to get around this issue.

Seems to be fixed with the update to the Garmin connect iOS app yesterday. My ride today sync’d fine.

Not working for me either, iPhone XS on 12.3.1, just suddenly stopped syncing.

Did you update the GC app the other day? If not then try that. Or you may have just been unlucky and the back end server was down. The broader problem was definitely fixed.

You know in all of the synch issues over the years, I never considered their server being down as part of the problem. I'll have to keep that in mind when I'm seeing strange behavior. Good point!

We have released 4.19 that addressed some syncing issues with the Edge 530/830. If you are still experiencing a problem after the update, please reach out to Garmin Product Support.

Thanks Matthew. I have 4.19 but still my 830 can't connect to my iPhone unless I manually open the GC app. on my phone. It's really not a sync issue but a Bluetooth connection issue. Under 'phone' the 830 says 'searching' but never connects until after the GC app. is opened. Once GC app. is opened it will connect and the last ride is uploaded.
