Off Course notification

I am upgrading from an old 800.  On the 800 when it lost the coarse, then found it again it seemed to just give me both notifications and continue.  When this happened on my 830, things seemed to freeze until I touched the "off Course" notification.  Is this what you are supposed to do?

  • I've only used the feature once.  I noticed that it would beep continuously until I found the course.  Once I was on the course it showed "on course" for a period of time (?alert set time), and then it went away.  I'm a mountain biker and don't take my hands off the bar much, so I can say that it went away with no action on my part.

  • Mine beeped and recalculated my route automatically. What do you have under route recalculation settings??  I'm not near my device to see what my settings are!

  • It is set not to recalculate.  I only want to follow a course, not have it pick a new route.

  • The behaviour on my 1000 is the following. Off course notice make the screen freeze until I either get back to I or confirm the notification. So maybe you remember incorrectly?

I guess this is really intended as it gives you only once a beep. So to make you still aware, you are off course. I would prefer to get a continuous  beep until I confirm, but map still moving.

But wishes for Garmin stuff never get reality.

  • I have an 800 and it puts an off course message but doesn’t freeze.  Due to the turn by turn not always working I have distance to next showing on my main screen and I can see it incrementing.

i would not like a constant beep.   I’m hoping the turn by turn works better on the 830.

  • I find turn by turn much improved in the 830 compared to the 800.  Not that I have had time to do more than a few rides yet, but it is clearly popping up a map and notification of the turn.  My old 800 often neglected to tell me of turns, although it seemed to always tell me if I got off course.

  • Yes the off course message would work even if the turn by turn didn’t.  Also the distance to next.  Still haven’t figured out why.  Anyway I’ll see with the 830.  It’s still back ordered with gpscentral.ca.  Buy.Garmin.com still shows 3-5 week delivery.  I’m selling my 800 but the buyer is losing interest...

  • I can't get TBT to work (I have it enabled), but the 830 doesn't "tell" me when to turn. Disappointed
