Copying sensors from another type of Edge

Is it 'safe' to transfer the Sensor profiles from a different type of Edge device, such as 1030?  I plan to set everything up from scratch, rather than copy all my backup files that I used in a 1030 (don't want to risk things being formatted differently).  However, it would be nice to know if the ANT+ sensors can all be copied over.  I've got 6 bikes all with their own power meters, wheel sensors & sizes, multiple heart rate monitors, remote, varia radar, vision, etc...

If nobody's tried it, I probably won't risk having it cause crashes.

  • You're not copying over or transferring sensors per se, you're pairing the sensor with your new Edge 830.  You can pair existing sensors to your new 830 and leave them paired to other Garmin Edges too.  I've got sensors on multiple bikes paired to multiple Garmin Edge units.  I can also pair the sensors with my phone which has ANT+ and Bluetooth capability.

I meant, rather than pairing them all, copying the files from my Edge 1030.  It's probably not worth the risk to save the time.

  • I would not recommend trying it. The units support different configuration settings. It might appear to work, but you could end up with settings configured that you cannot access via the UI.

  • don't do it ! i did it and i have t resit the unit in order to pair the ant+ sensor
