Edge 820 - 12.60 Navigation broken?

'Upgraded' Edge 820 to 12.60 on Friday and navigation now seem to be completely broken. select course, Start navigation - Device immediatly loses the courses, then claims no route is active.

"Made various device stability improvements"

Coulda fooled me.

Anyone know how to roll back to 12.50

  • Hi all, I know many are having an issue, I appear to be on of the more fortunate who has not, however, I thought I would post an update on my latest navigation experience and something I tried based on one of the previous posts I saw:

    1. I am a big fan of RWGS and use it to create most of my routes, then export them into my 820.

    2. I had let my naming and courses get out of sync between RWGPS and my 820 so I decided to delete ALL of the "Courses" on my 820.

    3. Renamed all my routes in RWGPS. The 820's "Course" menu is terrible (no scrolling and not long enough in the menu) so I wanted to make sure I knew the route by the first several letters so I could run the Route/Course on both my phone and 820.

    4. Exported all of my RWGS Routes and imported them directly into Garmin Connect where they appear as Courses.

    5. Used Garmin Connect to move all of the Courses directly onto the 820.

Went out this morning and ran the Route/Course on both RWGS (Samsung Android phone) and my 820 simultaneously and did not experience any issues (with my devices...chain drops on my new S-Works Tarmac...another story). They remained in sync the entire ride. I seriously feel for those of you who are having an issue and hope Garmin sorts this out quickly. If you use RWGS, maybe this will help.

    Wishing you all safe riding.

  • Thanks. It's encouraging to know it can work.

By chance, are you operating on ver 12.60 or an earlier version? Maybe you havent updated yet which just occured about 2 weeks ago.

  • Yup, installed 12.60 about two weeks ago.  I had not used my 820 for quite some time so I think the jump was from one of the version 9 releases all the way to 12.60.

Hi gvaeth, thanks for posting this.  Two weekends now without the turn by turn navigation and I'm not waiting any longer for them to fit it.  I have re-installed v12.40

  • Definitely not working- tried again today. Loads the route then the 820 claims no active route although I have to stop it to load another route.

I’ll wait for an update as I probably won’t need navigation for a while. If I do I’ll go back as advised in this thread.

  • Peteduj, Did the re-install of 12.40 work?

  • Whats the latest line from the wizards at Support?

Mistakenly took the update without checking the forums - Should have known better after the shambolic 12.40 update.

So for first 20miles from my door, no route found/off course alerts, latterly it appeared to rectify itself before again causing chaos. Needless to say,  battery drain is an unwanted side effect to this messy s/w delivery.

    Poor Garmin, really damn poor.

  • Hi domkirby. I can only add at this point that they are indicating that they recognize there is a problem. The guy I communicate with seems to be very open and provides a status update without me asking. The problem is that they have not found a solution yet. They have come back to me several times with questions and things to try, and I have sent them everything from files and detailed descriptions to videos of what is occurring.

I am beginning to panic because I have a century scheduled next Saturday. I might have to revert back to paper navigation.

Sounds like you experienced what I did this morning where the course started out okay but only a mile or two into it, it went stupid saying I was off course and tried to redirect me even though I was on the correct course.

I believe they are trying, but results are everything. So right now it is a "fail".

  • Jumped on these forums after struggling with navigation since updating to 12.60 last Monday. Reloading courses seems to do the trick, but you shouldn't need to do that after a firmware upgrade Rage

The link points to 12.43 beta. Do you have a link to 12.40?

I've tried searching but not had any luck.

    Thanks.
