Edge 820 disconnects Assioma Favero after a small amount of time [Firmware 9.0]

Hi,

Recently when the new firmware came out I installed the 9.0 firmware. Everything was fine until then. Sometimes the unit does not connect directly with my heartrate sensor, turning it off and on in the settings will help to connect, but now my Assioma Favero Duo power meter is disconnecting after I think 15 minutes. Turning it off and on in the sensor settings menu will not help. I have to stop my pause/stop my activity, press the power button, wait for a couple of seconds, turn the unit on and then I can finally connect to my powermeter again.

Garmin please publish the edge820_880.gcd file so people can downgrade to get everything to work properly again till the new bugs are fixed.

Kind regards,

Lennart

    Same issue with my Pioneer power meter. After about 5 minutes of inactivity, it disconnects. It will reconnect for 15 seconds and then permanently disconnect, requiring a hard power cycle. This is poor software development. My friends all seem to like the ELEMNT BOLT. I don't know why I've stayed this long in this abusive relationship with Garmin. Time to jump ship I think.

    Went back to the Pioneer head unit. I've ordered a Lezyne SuperGPS, which I got for just over $100 with a discount, for my other bikes with P2M meters. I've decided this will be the last of the thousand cuts of terrible software updates caused by a lack of regression testing and arrogant, non-responsive tech support. Garmin - get your house in order.

    Great. Here are some additional data points. This also happens with my Power2Max equipped bike. Additionally, it has been happening for at least a year with sleep mode. Once the unit goes to sleep, when it wakes up it cannot find the power meter it was previously connected to. I have had to disable sleep mode for this reason. I've also noticed that if I move the garmin out of range and back into range, it cannot find the power meter it was connected to. However it can find and connect to another power meter just fine. I did not report these because of previous experience with Garmin support. They immediately dismiss the issue, blame another vendor, and close the ticket.
  • Could you explain how you are using sleep mode during an activity?

    Settings --> Activity Profile --> <an activity profile> --> Auto Features --> Auto Sleep

    If auto sleep mode is set to On, the Garmin goes to sleep after a certain idle time and needs to be woke up with a press on the power button. Any power meter that was connected prior to sleeping is now disconnected and cannot be reconnected until the unit is hard power cycled.

    How do I use it? My riding buddies and I stop at a gas station in BF, New Mexico and have some snacks. Auto Sleep puts the Garmin to sleep. They're all ready to go after, but I have to freaking restart my Garmin.
  • When you stop at the gas station do you manually stop the timer or is it on auto-pause. I'm assuming you must manually stop the timer for the auto-sleep to kick in.

    It's been about a year since I turned off auto-sleep. But I've always used auto-pause since my Edge 500, so I believe that it autopaused, and then would auto-sleep.

    I'll set auto-sleep on my 820 and try out with my P2M equipped bike, see if this is still a valid bug. I would think so, since this behavior appears to have "spread" from affecting sleep mode to affecting any extended idle time.

    Okay I misremembered what happened. This is the issue:

    https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/cycling/edge-820-aa/1282765-edge-820-can-t-reconnect-to-power-meter-after-suspending#post1282765

    This is the use case more explicitly. I start up the Garmin. I wake the power meter. The garmin connects to the power meter. I wander off to get my stuff together to leave on a ride, or I'm waiting for the start of an event. I do NOT start an activity. In that interim the garmin suspends to sleep mode. I wake it up, it is no longer attached to the power meter and cannot find it. It cannot be pointed to the power meter and instructed to attach either (go to power meters list, tap on the one in question, tap on "Connect".) It can find other previously registered power meters and attach to those. At this point the garmin needs to be fully restarted.
