RHR on EDGE 540

Been going crazy about this, if theres no solution Garmin should def take a look at this!

So my garmin edge logs RHR when I turn it on with my chest sensor or forerunner 965.

For example today when I woke up, my recorded RHR through the night was 46, I got out of bed, had breakfast and then turned on my edge 540 with my forerunner as a heart sensor while I was getting ready to go cycling, 2 min later the app on my phone showed RHR 54 because of the EDGE, of course is not resting cause im getting ready to go cycling!!

Same thing happens if im using my chest strap before cycling. I dont want my EDGE to log resting heart rate, im never resting when im using it!!

Anyone having this issue???

  • RHR and your current HR are quite different metrics.

See here for an explanation of RHR.  https://support.garmin.com/en-AU/?faq=F8YKCB4CJd5PG0DR9ICV3A

  • Thanks for your reply, I know the difference, I’m not talking about current HR.

my garmin edge is logging RESTING HEART RATE when I turn it on, on days I don’t go cycling the RHR remains on the value my forerunner logs (usually when I sleep)

  • Interesting. My EDGE 840 doesn't contribute to my RHR value even if I'm sitting at my desk with both Connect and EDGE units switched on while wearing a HR monitor. I don't use my Garmin watch anymore, so perhaps your issue is linked to both devices working in conjunction?

But Garmin does strange things. It knows my weight, it has years of data from the years I've used a Garmin watch, but ever since I stopped using the Garmin watch Connect seems to think that my resting calories burned these days is 1000 Cal/day down from 2300 when I had a watch. The whole ecosystem seems very broken when not used with multiple devices, and even then, there are still issues, which is why I've given up on Garmin. I just use an EDGE to log cycles... can't be bothered with Connect anymore.

EDIT: It seems my EDGE 840 contributes to RHR value if I start an activity.  How illogical is this!?? It must be a bug. My RHR on Apple is between 39-44, but garmin logged me with yesterday's activity at 60. Face palm tone1‍️
