Edge 540 force restart during activity

Hello,

I was on a 2+ hour ride today and all of a sudden my edge 540 decided to crash and reboot itself after around 25 minutes. It returned to the activity in pause but missed a chunk of data and took a while to reconnect to my power meter pedals. The same thing happened around 3-4 more times which was pretty frustrating. Any idea what could be going on?

  • After clearing the device memory (it only had about 500 MB left) and updating the firmware, the freezes became much less frequent, but they still haven’t gone away. There’s about a 90% chance of a one-minute freeze when a hazard notification appears (for example, a pothole) if I vote on whether the hazard is currently present.

  • I experienced the same today on a 350km ride with my Edge 1050. It froze about 5-6 times and i had to reboot. Towards the end of the ride it didn’t freeze up anymore but it rebooted a few times on its own. No data was deleted and everytime it started up the activity was merely stopped and i could start it up again.

Just before the ride it updated the firmware, that could the issue.

  • SW 33.20 still happening, very frustrating

  • Same. I tried all actions, but freeze continued

  • Updated to firmware version 28.33, did a soft reset, and went for 30 mile road bike ride (power meter and HR monitor connected) and had no issues. Noticed it update to 28.34 after the ride synced - so did another soft reset. Fingers crossed - although admittedly only one datapoint. Stuck out tongue (Edit: also deleted temporary files using option on unit)
