Only North American Maps Show up on Garmin Express

I have Canadian and European maps installed on my Edge 540. I installed them a year ago and had the full list of maps to choose from at that time. The update to TopoActive maps seemed to go fine automatically. However, I now only have the North American map options in Map Manager (see picture). The European Maps are still on the device but don’t show up on Map Manager. US maps won’t install even when I deselect Canadian maps because the European Maps are taking up too much room. I could start deleting things manually, but don't want to lose the European maps permanently. Any suggestions on how to get the worldwide map options back?

  • There are ongoing problems with the map distribution backend. I have been in touch regarding my device, which was purchased in Asia, not getting TopoActive when announced. After bouncing a few emails around, I only have Asian maps available to me as of two weeks ago, none from the Americas or Europe. I'll guess you got yours in Canada? I infer that they are rolling back to only devices' preloaded regions for the time being.

If you want to back up the European maps, you'll need the files in the SID and SQL folders, and you can find which map IMG files to copy here: www.gpsrchive.com/.../Garmin Map ID.html

  • Thanks for the link. It’s very helpful to be able to identify which region the .IMG and .DB files represent. Yes, I purchased my 540 in Canada. I hope you’re correct that this is a temporary problem that they’re working on.

  • Wow just like that, almost all global options are available to me. Check your Express if you have the same

Edit: However I am having difficulty updating

  • Things are changing. I now have base maps showing up in Map Manager, but still only the North American detailed maps are available. I guess I'll be patient for now.

  • I am about to fly to Europe and can't install anything but Canada, US or Mexico. I guess they want us to get lost in foreign countries.

  • After paying for Topoactive Europe map, I am able to install it. It used to be free and it seems it's once again only available via purchase and that this change has not been announced anywhere.

  • It isn't true and I'm sorry you had to shell out before your trip. There have been distribution issues.

  • Even though I installed the paid version, I ended up using the DC Rainmaker guide to install free open maps. The paid European TopoActive map was massive and took up all the space on my device. For anyone who finds this thread, I found this guide very useful: dcrainmaker dot com/2019/08/install-free-garmin.html
