Varia RTL515 radar overlay not working

I've connected a new RTL515 my 540. I get audio warning of approaching vehicles when riding, but the clolor overlay does not display. I've checked all setting and everything is as they should be. I've deleted the sensor and reconnected, done a reset of the 540, tried to update firmware (currently 25.25) but it fails to update. I've got my 510 out and connected the RTL515. The overlay function worked straight away without having to do anything. Any ideas?

    RTL515 works since years perfect on Edge 530 and now on the Edge 540.

    On the device search the sensor settings, the correct setting is:

    Color overlay: ON

    If only it was that easy.

    I've tried turning color overlay off and on again, turning it off and rebooting, then turning it back on, changing the traffic column from right to left, left to right, turning green alerts off and on....

    I would say then the first step is to update your device to 27.13

    I've tried upgrading to 27.13 over wifi, which recognises there is an update. When I run the update it comes back almost immediately with "Update Failed", and that's the end of that. I've tried this 50+ times with different scenarios (including standing next to wifi router, with the same result). When I log in to Garmin Express and connect the 540 it tells me the firmware is 25 25 and it's all "Up to Date". There are no updates to install. On the Garmin site there is a log of changes in 27.13, but no zip file or similar for a manual install. I'm not sure the firmware is the issue, there would be more chatter online about 25.25 if the overlay function didn't work. Had a ride yesterday using my 510 and overlay and all warnings worked perfectly.

    Unfortunately the Garmin express is a very stupid application, but this is the way to go.
    Connect your Edge 540 to Garmin Express for at least 1 hour.
    Then disconnect it and if no update works, then again for 1 hour the next day.
    The update request will come once.
