Well that software update went well...

Edge 540 offered to install an update when I started this moring. I dismissed for "Later". Rode 85 km, pressed stop, save ride, and the update installed itself. Now my 85km is supposed to have happened in 12 minutes instead of 3 hours, and all the HRM and Power Meter data is lost. And to top it all off, the date on the ride is 31 Dec 1989!! Great.

  • To add insult to injury, my Edge 540 now thinks it's Solar, and it never was before the update. What a MESS!

  • Garmin's software quality control is utter garbage...  I think elementary grade students could code better.

These forced updates have already ruined a 530 and broke functionality on my Venu3.  I'm actively blocking all updates to my replacement 540 - it works, don't F' it up!  Just wish I could figure out how to block the upgrade servers for my Venu.

  • Also the unwanted UI changes are annoying, I think.

  • I've just discovered that the update has broken my custom text response for messages. When I get a message, Garmin offers me the factory list of responses. Open Garmin Connect on my phone, open Edge 540, go to Text Response, and all my custom responses are there, not the factory list. WTF!?!?!?

  • Since the software update, it is not possible to edit the text responses to notifications. I have tried removing all of my custom responses, then synching Edge 540. I have factory default responses only. I add my custom responses, and synch Edge 540, and I still only have factory default response list. So, the "feature" is now totally broken. Nice one!
