Garmin Edge 540 not uploading route after completing a ride

I am tracking my cycling with my edge 540 instead of my fenix 7 now, all going well and like having the visual when cycling. Two issues, one more annoying than the other. First and least annoying - I can't work out how to connect my fenix 7 watch to my edge 540 in order to track heart rate - is this even possible? why don't they just communicate automatically? Second issue and the reason for this post - after I have completed a ride, there is no map showing the route I took when uploaded to Garmin connect or Strava, the watch produced this map/route perfectly fine and I know the 540 has GPS so why can't it do the same? Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Might have something to do with the latest update 26.17 or 26.18. At least for me this was the moment when my edge failed to upload the route after completing a ride. I fixed it by deleting your map (in my case western europe) from your edge and then downloading it again. Everything worked fine afterwards.

I'm not sure how to connect your heart rate from your wrist to your edge activity.

  • Hi,

    1) switch "Broadcast HR" on your fenix, and then connect it as an external HR sensor to Edge. You'll need to do this on every ride.

    2) if no map - chech if GPS is enabled and working on your Edge. If enabled but not working - check GPS version in About menu, and see other topics in this forum about GPS version 00 and not working after latest update.

    Good luck!
