Acquiring Satellites taking way longer than usual

After updating to the latest version (v25.25), my Edge 540 is taking a few minutes to acquire GPS signal. The first couple times this happened I "fixed" it by rebooting the device a couple times because I wasn't sure which was causing the issue. But after checking the map once an activity has been started I can see the message "Acquiring Satellites" (although I can see 4/5 or 5/5 signal intensity). After a few minutes it shows "elevation calibrated to location" and the Edge starts tracking speed and distance as it should.

It doesn't sound terrible waiting for 2-3 minutes after starting an activity but as I mentioned this is something that never happened before, and I've been using this Garmin for more than a year now. I've been always using Auto Select for Satellite Systems option.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

  • I am having the same issue but it isn’t acquiring the satellites at all. I have restarted it several times. Still not able to get any satellites deapite the gps sugnal on the profile/settings screen being 5 bars?

  • Indeed, after the last few updates my 540 is getting buggy, so I ride 10 trips a week, most of the time it starts without a problem, sometimes it takes a few minutes before it detects movement, but the gps signal bars are all green.  i dont know if the selection off max battery live was the problem or not but I switched to automatic satellite selection.

edit: even on automatic satellite selection it sometimes gives problems, I'm guessing it has to do with elevation calibration.

  • Unfortunately I haven't been able to ride outdoors during the past few weeks but I think indeed we have been experiencing the same issue. Have you tried it after the last update? I just saw another user reporting something similar after updating to it:
