Hi, just got a new Edge 540 solar with europe maps.
First thing I did was updating the maps with Garmin Express. However, after updating, the unit started up with the message 'failed loading basemap' and the maps that should have been updated were not showing as updated in garmin express.
I tried using the 'reinstall current version of map' from the express menu, but that function failed with the message 'an error occurred during updating / installing'
Things seemed quite messed up. Trailforks is also enabled and that map (POI) also showed the same error when trying to update.
After a factory reset I was able to remove the installed maps (Europe) from the device and reinstalled them, which worked fine. But the unit still failes on the basemaps
After some forum searches, I was able to get another basemap (GMAPBMAP.IMG) and manually added it to the \Garmin directory of the unit.
I just tried reinstalling the europe maps again and the basemap file is deleted consistently during the map removal and installation process. The file is not restored with the installation of the europe maps.
Looks like a software bug bug in Garmin Express to me.
