Edge540 GarminExpress Europe Map greyed out, no option to install subregion, mac

Dear all,

First time posting.

I am trying to install the central europe subregion of the Routable Cycle Map of Europe onto my Edge540. However, even if I have 14.28 GB free space on the device (noting maximum capacity of the device is 15.43GB) the Routeable Cycle Map of Europe remains greyed out in garmin express, and there is no option to choose a smaller subregion. I have attached a screenshot. Note that if I press "View", a pop-up shows a map of eastern europe, and that is it. There is no option to choose anything, and no other maps are shown.

I hope you might be able to help.

Simon.

I have contacted Garmin Support who did not read my query, and instead told me to install the central europe subregion. I would if I could.

  • Same issue. Also tried Garmin Express on Windows with exact same results. Even under "View", there is no way to choose a sub-region.

  • I'm having the same issues...trying to install Central Europe. The Australian help desk was terrific, they spent an hour and a half trying to work up a solution. They have referred it to the engineers in the US. However, reading these posts it seems that the problem has been around for some time.

I also got an insufficient space message and greyed out maps, including Europe, USA, China and South America.

The Australian/NZ map is great but I would love to have my 504 with me in Europe in September.

    Any suggestions?

    Rick

  • Same issue here. 4 months worth of emails back and forth from garmin support Australia. Had to wade through the usual bull$hit suggestions of updating to the most recent software version etc. Then kept going in circles ending up back with "the whole map is too large, you need to install part of Europe". Yes that's what I'd like to do but garmin express won't let me, the option is grey.

At one point they tried to convince me that it's impossible to install the Europe maps at all on an edge 540 (map 18GB, device 16GB). Clearly this is bull$hit, they sell the device in Europe (with parts of the map pre-installed).

They've never admitted it but I suspect there is some quirk in their programming that means you have to have enough room on the device for the WHOLE map, then it allows you to install PARTS, which you can then exchange at will. Hence I even tried to exchange my device for one from Europe, also not an option.

What I'm left with is a device that's no use to me if I go travelling to Europe or the US. This sucks.
