How can I change my auto pause speed to less than 10kph on my 540

Timers auto pause speed setting cannot be less than 10kph. My 540 keeps pausing and switching on whilst on a very steep climb and speed drops below 10kph. This is very frustrating and giving inaccurate readings on a segment because of continuous start  / stop.

Was able to set my min speed on 520 as low as 3kph

Is this a common problem? Is Garmin going to rectify this?

  • Hi! You can edit it by choosing the activity profile you want to edit and then Timer/Auto Pause. Then select custom and you will be able to edit this value. Hope it helps!

  • Do you have a speed sensor, if not then the GPS derived speed is always going to be less accurate and more variable especially at the slow end regardless of the "auto pause" speed. You could embrace elapsed time training (not counting stops is cheating Innocent Wink) and turn auto pause off, many route sites (eg RWGPS) will still calculate a moving time metric based on the speed and timestamps even if you have auto pause off.

PS Also try "Auto Select" GPS setting to maximise the GPS accuracy under varying conditions, so far I have found this seems to work well and does not seem to significantly downgrade battery life, of course depends on where you ride too.

  • i have got the same problem. It is a bug. When i get off the bike and push the bike on the ground, the garmin computer continously turn off-on the recording but i set up 8km/h limit.
