can't get speed sensor to connect

I have a brand new edge 540. The also brand new (came in the kit) speed sensor will not pair. I tried a new battery but still no luck. My kit also came with heart rate and cadence sensors that connect without issue. I have the speed sensor installed on the hub of the bike, when I spin the wheel, it will sometimes blink a green light. Is there something I can try? Did I get a bad sensor and need to ask for a new one?

If you go to the edge's list of sensors in the menu > sensors, do you see the speed sensor? if so, select it and then select remove. Then select "add sensor" on the edge > speed.

FYI, just spinning the wheel doesn't always activate the sensor. The sensor detects motion through the earth's magnetic field, so it is more reliable to roll the bike along the ground. A brisk walking pace is generally good enough. The lights will only light when it is first activated, they will not continue to blink. Once activated it will stay active for several minutes, generally long enough to work with it.
