“Sidewalk Trail” routing

When following a route created using a ride captured with my Garmin, I’ll be following a road with no turns expected for a long time, and my Garmin will route me to a “Sidewalk Trail”. The notification for this covers my screen with a map so I have to push the button to cancel out and get back to the info that I want to see. After cancelling out it will happen again 1/4 mile later. How do I stop this from happening?

Presumably, you are using a track file.

What map did you use to create it?

The maps installed on the devices are based on Openstreetmap. You should use an Openstreetmap to create your track.

The basic problem is that there are two alternative “ways” (the road and the side path) on the map and it looks to the device that you are closer to the side path.
