plug into a computer, copy all folders/files to the computer as backup, and delete the garmindevice.xml from the Edge and unmount and unplug and re-try to turn on
Have you tried the "hard reset" of holding power button continually until it restarts? I assume this applies to the 520 as well. Worth a try before more drastic measures.
