My Edge 530 sometimes do not display route on map

I often navigate only by looking at the route displayed on the screen. According to the manual: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/edge530/EN-US/GUID-A90DA84C-389E-4DFA-9A85-CD698C4B4E63.html (I use "Always Display" and color , mostly red).

A few months ago it happened that the course line disappeared on the screen and returned after about 10 km. Today the situation repeated. What to do with this?

  • Try a "soft reset" or whatever it is called.  Turn the 530 on.  Once it is completely finished booting, hold down the power button without letting up until you see the Garmin logo showing it is starting again.  Takes about 10 seconds, but feels like an eternity for some reason.  Just don't let up until you see the starting logo.  The soft reset often clears out any bugs.

  • I performed it a few times. But the device have not turned on itself. A had to release the button and press it for 2 seconds to switch the device on. According to the info on Garmin websites it is called "hard reset" and the device MAY turn on itself.

And I checked my maps visible. It appeared that 2 maps had been turned on: OS Full and OS Light. And the Tourist Routes overlay - turned off. Why? I do not know. Perhaps the device performed it by itsef... So I downloaded the latest versions of the maps and overlay, So I turned off the Light version and on the routes. Now it seems my Edge 530 works OK, but i have to verify it during a bicycle trip.
