File conversion problem(?)

My friend and I both use Garmins (mine is Edge 530, his is a newer model). He creates the route in Ride With GPS and sends me a .fit file, which I then download to the 530. The route always works perfectly for him, but mine always has bugs, e.g. warnings I'm off route and need to make a U turn (when we're on the right route), failing to warn me of an upcoming turn (matter of fact, the turn never came up). If my friend hadn't been with me, I would have definitely gotten lost. Any idea what could be causing the route to be so problematic on my 530, when it works perfectly for him?

Thanks for any suggestions!

  • On the 530 make sure that route recalculation is off as it is a common source of problems when following a set course. (Menu>Settings>[your Activity Profile]>Navigation>Routing>Recalc=OFF)

The RWGPS file is not likely to be a problem.

You can also turn off turn guidance and rely on the course points embedded in the RWGPS file.

  • What happens if your friend sends you a GPX file instead?
