Map update 2025.10 not showing up in Garmin Express

Today was announced that topoactive maps 2025.10 will replace the older 2024.20 cycling map. These have a annoying bug where edge *30 devices cannot reroute or route to a saved location, unless popularity routing option was disabled. (This was not the case with 2024.10)

So I was happy to read that the bug was confirmed and solved in 2025.10.

I succesfully updated my Fenix 7 watch to 2025.10 but after connecting my edge530 I get a "Synchronisation with Garmin Connect failed" error, and only the trailforks map is showing up. No 2025.10 update but also the currently installed 2024.20 map is not shown anymore.

Garmin Express is up to date 7.25.0 + , edge firmware 9.75 too.

I hope this will be solved in the comming days but nevertheless I wanted to let people know that there's an issue going on with this update. (From my perspective)

  • Thanks, on my side I am in europe.
Geocode as far as I am aware is for adress search wich the 530 doesn't have.

  • I think instead of geocode, it is about the region? A USA device will download USA maps, EU devices get EU maps etc. The GMA file (Garmin Map Activation) controls that, afaik. (And it will offcourse be possible to add your own map files, but that is not what our discussion is about, in this thread) Slight smile

  • Updated the maps to 2025.10 on my edge 530. Garmin express keeps asking for update.

I rode yesterday and I found out that climb pro is totally broken, ie, some climbs are not detected.

I can see the climbs are correct in the course at garmin connect app, but when synced to the device, the climbs on the course do not match. I have the "show all climbs" option selected.

Anyone else having climb pro issues after this update?

I regret this update, does garmin even test this stuff?

  • It has to  be questioned, do they even test Garmin Edge devices before release?

  • My own company does also create software releases (android/iOS) and it is simply impossible to test devices from all regions, all versions, firmwares etc. So I don't want to say that Garmin did nothing wrong on this, but it is too easy to say that Garmin did not test at all.
Topoactive 2025.10 is released to the full range of devices (including watches etc) so from a business perspective I can understand why this went wrong.
If there's an issue, best way to inform Garmin is to open a ticket.

  • I went out today and did a very hilly ride, 11 big hills in total and "Climb Pro" worked perfect on every hill.

This was on my "530" and with 2025.10

  • What is the version of the DEM map in your 530 device? Mine shows 2023.10. Next ride i will recreate/update the course and send it again to the device to see how it goes. Also cleaned all the maps in the device and did the update again. Current version in device: Topo euro maps 2025.10 and DEM (elevation map) 2023.10.

  • Well, I understand this argument but in modern days there are release strategies and test automation tools to help on these multiple scenarios. Also garmin 530/830 is last generation with a big installed base, so it should be tested properly.
Maybe they did and I’m having an isolated issue. I did some cleanup and updates in the device, let’s see. I will open the incident if the problem persists.

  • The version of the DEM map in my 530 is the same as yours 2023.10

  • 2024.20

actually I see that there is an update of 10gb ver. 2015.10, but when I try tu update it it says that the device needs a free  storage of 19gb (I guess because of the temp file maybe), but the edge itself has only 15gb total capacity... how can I upgrade then?
