Map update 2025.10 not showing up in Garmin Express

Today was announced that topoactive maps 2025.10 will replace the older 2024.20 cycling map. These have a annoying bug where edge *30 devices cannot reroute or route to a saved location, unless popularity routing option was disabled. (This was not the case with 2024.10)

So I was happy to read that the bug was confirmed and solved in 2025.10.

I succesfully updated my Fenix 7 watch to 2025.10 but after connecting my edge530 I get a "Synchronisation with Garmin Connect failed" error, and only the trailforks map is showing up. No 2025.10 update but also the currently installed 2024.20 map is not shown anymore.

Garmin Express is up to date 7.25.0 + , edge firmware 9.75 too.

I hope this will be solved in the comming days but nevertheless I wanted to let people know that there's an issue going on with this update. (From my perspective)

  • I don't care about the map update itself. I just want the bug in the map to be solved. Besides of that, as a Fenix7 owner, I already have the map.

  • My 530 updated the Trailforks map, then when that was finished, then the new Topo 2025.10 showed up.  I was able to download both from GC without incident, worked fine.

  • Is that the EU map? Express is only showing trailforks. The 2024.20 cycling map completely disappeared in my case.

  • No, I'm in the USA.  I misspoke earlier, I should have said I "downloaded both from Garmin Express".

Again, for me Express was only showing Trailforks, but once I let it update that, then the Topo map showed in my queue.  The Topo 2025.10 then downloaded just fine through Express.

  • Yep I had exactly this. Updated the Trailforks map and now that's the only map showing in Garmin Express for the device. No sign of the existing maps (which ARE on the device) or an offer of any new ones. It's the EU maps that are on my device.

  • I'm in the same boat, I cannot install trailforks, it does it, but no new version shows up and no option for a new map for EU West appears in Garmin Express.

But, I have just seen this in the "830" forum: -

"Edge 530/830/Edge Explore products do not have MicroSD/SD card slots. These products require coverage areas to be purchased via download.  The 830 seems to be so popular that Garmin has shut it down. After all, you're supposed to buy new hardware."

So going by that, 530's are obsolete now and you have to pay for the new maps to update them. And, no official announcement has even appeared in the 530 forum with what is happening..

  • Digging deeper, there is issues with maps for the Edge '30 series at the moment and they are free. That also was from the 830 forum but from a different thread and from a more reliable poster than my last.

  • I got the following response from Garmin: "We are aware of the issues. Our software developers are working on a solution. In the meanwhile, disable the popularity routing feature to temporary fix the issue. " (And that does fix the routing issues, that is the correct workaround for the bug)

There are several reasons why I do not understand the official statement about the *30 series:

    1) Shops (like amazon) still sell the device. Would be strange if it would be a discontinued product.

    2) My fenix7 received the topoactive maps just fine. The fenix7 and Edge 530 have the same amount of storage.

    3) The Edge had full EU maps, where my fenix shows that topoactive is devided in several regions, so selecting EU (or even parts) is not an issue with these maps.

    4) My wifes Edge 530 was not connected to garmin express last year so that device has still a 2023 map (or maybe even older) You would expect that the device would be able to the latest available map, but also on that device, the EU map completely disappeared in Garmin Express.

So: I expect we have to wait, and that the maps will re-appear, because some of us got a working topoactive download after contacting the helpdesk. I assume there are some issues with mapping serials to the correct maps. (And not issues with the map itself)

  • Map update 2025.10 has shown up this morning in garmin Express and updated succesfully. But, I will not get chance to try it out untill Sunday or Monday now.
