"Last location" is a useless feature!

The "last location" of your 530  ( and probably other similar devices) that you can access from the Garmin Connect app (iOS) is a completely useless feature. It only records the location of the device when you "sync" which typically is at the end of a ride.
It is COMPLETELY USELESS to find a lost device, for example, if it bounced off your bike accidentally or for some other reason you lost it/misplaced it.   The 530, although connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth when riding does not exchange any sort of GPS location with your iPhone. This is absurd, it should occasionally send GPS data to Garmin Connect , then at least you might have some kind of idea about the location of your device when it was last near your iPhone.

  • If your 530 comes off the bike, a sync is not required, but needs to be connected to your phone via Bluetooth.

"Find my Edge: Locates your lost Edge device that is paired with your smartphone and currently within range."

In the GC app, tap on My Device -> Find My Edge

  • Got it, if you know you lost your 530 at that exact point in time, and it is within range you can find it.

It just seems that they already have the  feature I am asking for with the Bike Alarm - obviously it can transmit the GPS location back to the iPhone when it is moved. It would seem super helpful if the 530 sent ( say once a minute) a crumb back to the connected iPhone about its location. Seems incredibly simple for them to implement.

And in a major oversight, the existing "Last Location" feature gives you the "Last Location" but not "Time of Last Location".

  • I just tried this with my 530, and it worked. No sync.

I didn't find it before, as it's in the Garmin Connect Mobile instructions, not the 530 manual.
