Turn Off Map Screen

Hi !

I received a new Garmin 530 unit after using my warranty due to problems with the barometer: And now, I am not able to turn off the map screen if I start a course. I use the routes only to see the ascent profile and climbPro, but I am not interested in the map, however, I do not know how to hide it, it only lets me choose between "Always show it" or "Only during navigation".

The strangest thing is that in my previous unit, also 530, I did have it hidden, but I don't remember how I did it.

Does anyone know how to do it?

Thanks!

  • You cannot turn off the Map Screen on a 530 and never have been able to do so.

  • Believe me:

I have been following routes on my 530 for 4 months, using climbPro and the route profile screen, but without needing to see the map: Data screen 1, profile screen with average speed and slope, climbpro during the uploads and list of pending uploads. Those were my screens. 100% secure.

    Thanks and regards.

  • Your complicating what you are posting about. Now you are saying that you are using a "Route Profile Screen" to follow your routes on but in the first posting, you say that you do not follow the route on the 530 and only use the route for ascent profile and climbPro so which is it.

You cannot turn off the Map screen which you initially asked for, but you can turn maps off from displaying on the map screen and if you start a route that will display on the map screen but with no map.

  • Sorry for my poor english and any confusion I may have generated, I will try again, although I believe there are no inconsistencies in my previous messages, let me explain:
    - I have courses created in Garmin Connect, under the "Training and planning" menu.
    - I send one of these routes to my 530 and navigate it.
    - I could see the following screens without needing to see the map (neither in 2d nor in 3d, nor streets, nor my arrow with the current position, etc. nothing):
    1. Field data (speed, time, cadence, etc.)
    2. Altitude screen to see past and futher ascent profile. To be able to see if a descent, a climb, etc. was coming.
    3. ClimbPro to view the current climb and get climb approach warnings.
And, also, I had "Off-Course alert" activated, so, without needing to have a specific screen for the map, I did receive a warning on the screen if I left the route.

  • You never were able to turn map screen off on a 530. See for example a 4 year old post      I just want to turn the map off!!!!!!
