Red V-shaped lines appearing during activity

Any idea what these v-shaped lines are or how to get rid of them? The apex of the V is often at a turn point but not always, and they seem to usually go in the general direction of the destination. They can sometimes make it difficult to ascertain directions at a glance when they are covering or near the road ahead (especially annoying during fast descents).

Thanks!

  • Meant to post this pic as well.

  • It looks like the timestamps for some of the points in the course file are incorrect.

Do you have the original course that was loaded to the Edge that you could share? Does the course file contain course points?

  • Here's a link to the Course file. Couldn't figure out how to upload it here directly. It's not unique to this one course though. It just started a few weeks ago out of the blue. Maybe I'm creating courses incorrectly somehow?

  • I loaded that GPX file on an 830 with the 2024.10 maps it and looks OK.

How did you get the course from Garmin Connect to the Edge? Did you use Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile App?

It would good if you could share the course file from the Edge. It might be that the delivery method changed something.

What you could try is deleting the course off of the Edge and place the GPX file in the Garmin\NewFiles folder and see if that results in a better looking route.

  • Thanks for taking a look! Here's the .fit file off the device. I exported from the Connect mobile app to the Edge 530.

  • I don't see anything wrong with that course FIT file.

Could check the the avoidance settings? Maybe one of those is causing an issue.

Menu -> Settings _> Activity Profile -> Name of profile you ae using -> Navigation -> Routing ->

Check the Routing Mode and the Avoidance Setup.

  • Garmin devices have small brains and the programming is sometimes not perfect so they can get tired and confused. I have learned over the last 15+ years that often when the device is doing “odd” things with no apparent explanation or visible cause it can be fixed via a factory reset. Will take 10 minutes to re-enter settings, Garmin support has a help page on backing up & restoring some setting files. Maybe worth a try as the maps are ok for other users & the course file works for other users……?
