Edge turning wifi on by itself

My Edge 530 started turning wifi on by itself. It has done so many times over the last week.

Of course it should not. But the reason why it’s especially annoying is that syncing to Connect has recently stopped working when WiFi is on. Edge says that it syncs  but it just spins and spins with no data getting to Connect. If I try to start a manual sync from Connect Mobile I get a “Unit busy, try again later” message.

When WiFi is of course, it does sync. Although I often have to turn of Bluetooth on my phone and then back on.

I can see that the exact same issue has been reported in the 830 forum more than 3 years ago. But no solution in that thread.

  • Can occur if the "Auto Upload" option is enabled in WiFi settings, if its on then turn it off to see if it fixes problem

  • Thanks a lot for your suggestion. However, Auto upload is off.

In fact I thought the problem was exactly what you describe. I didn’t turn it off in the first place and saw WiFi turn on by itself. But after turning Auto Upload off, WiFi still comes on “randomly”.

This plus the fact that my Edge suddenly cannot sync via WiFi makes a real effort to get data to Connect :-( .

  • When my garmin is doing something odd (which happens a couple of times a year on many previous devices over the years) I figure it is time for a factory reset to clear out accumulated memory locations that have not been cleared etc and reset various device resources , If you call garmin support they will frequently suggest a factory reset.. You will lose settings, wifi and BT config and CIQ apps / fields. The profiles and general settings can mostly be backed up and restored after the reset but notThe  the connection config or CIQ

  • Yes, I considered that route. You are probably right. I need to look into backing up the things you mention + Maptheme. Thanks for the link!

  • Factory reset solved the problems. Now it syncs via Wifi and much quicker than before. Also connection to sensors when starting a ride is much faster. I was pleasantly surprised to see that after the reset all sensors were still there, so I did not have to add them again. Thanks a lot!
