Pesky update during activity !?!?!?

Today, as I was gently riding, suddently my device starts a firmware update.

At first I thought my Edge was crashing  (fawk!) but then it restarted and restarted the activity (thankfully!).

Still, I find it really annoying that my unit is doing an update DURING my ride as opposed to before or after.

Some raised questions :

  1. Is it normal that a firmware update will be installed during a activity?
  2. Is it possible to disable autoupdate on a Edge 530 when an activity is ongoing ?
  • Weird, I never had any firmware updates during rides over the past years wirh my Edge 25, 130 and 530 and also not on the Forerunner 35. Update prompts popup only at startup.

It's also weird because I don't have any updates available for my 530, it's version 9.75 for months now since I purchased the unit in the beginning of this year.

  • I have had with 530 & 510, not sure with fenix6. there are map updates and last week or so with daylight savings changes so there is a time map update

  • To be fair, I hadn't used my Edge for several weeks nor had I connected it to Garmin Express.

But even that, i just think it's a bad design to have the unit restart during an activity.

  • just started a run activity, near home and wifi, fenix6 decides to an update, had not used all day and it has to do it 30 secs into the run, had restart the activity 5 mins later after restarting the watch
