Garmin stuck on a loop when turning on the device.

When I turn on my garmin edge 530 it is stuck in a loop on the start up screen that says "Garmin", beeps and then "Garmin" disappears. Then it repeats this endlessly. I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds to reset but this did nothing. Any suggestions on how to resolve this. I have had this device for about 3 years and haven't had this issue before.

  • Here are some tips I've come across at various times in these pages. I haven't needed to use them myself but  they might be useful.

1 - Soft Reset (all models?)

Press and hold down power button for about 10 sec or even longer.

    2 - Force to Mass Storage:(510 onwards)

    Power the device off.

Press and hold the lap button while plugging into USB port on computer (with a data cable- not a charge only cable).

Wait up to 30 seconds and device should go to mass storage.

Then connect to Garmin Express to sync etc.

    3 - Prompted non-volatile memory clear (520 onwards?)

    Turn device off.

Hold the Down key while powering on the device.

Continue holding the down key until the “Factory Reset” prompt appears.

    Select OK to clear.

    4 - Non-prompted non-volatile memory clear (520 onwards?)

(Clears NV and deletes all FIT files including Activities, Courses, Workouts)

    Turn device off.

    Hold Lap/Reset and Start/Stop.

Press and release the power button.

Continue to hold only Lap/Reset and Start/Stop.

Release Lap/Reset and Start/Stop when the Garmin Logo is cleared.

The unit will restart and clear NV.
