Slow locating satellites

I have an Edge 130 and 530. Went out cycling today and the 130 located satellites and was GPS ready in under 2 minutes. The 530 took just over TWO HOURS. This only seems to happen in the winter months, November to February (cycling in sunny Scotland). Software up to date and I've tried different GPS settings but to no avail. Anyone had this issue?

  • While not on an activity, put the unit in an open area and see how long satellite acquisition takes.

  • Make sure you're connecting regularly to the Garmin Connect app on your phone, in particular immediately before you plan to use the Edge.  I believe the app downloads the latest satellite location data based on your phone location.  Which also means you need to give the GC app permission to use your location.

  • Also check the amount of ride history on the device. Some of the older units would process the contents of the Activity folder on start-up, so having a lot of history on the device could slow down getting a GPS lock.
