Calorie Difference Edge25/530

I have just swapped from using a Garmin Edge 25 to a Garmin 530. I did my first ride today and the data for my calories burnt is way lower than it ever was when using the Edge 25. I don’t have a power meter so I know the data can’t be completely accurate. However, when using the 25, my calorie data was fairly consistent i.e. I knew approximately how many calories I could expect to burn for different types and lengths of rides. Is it a common thing to have the 530 showing a much lower amount of calories used per ride?

  • Different units with different algorithms.  That is the cause.  Without a power meter I wouldn't trust either number.  Just get used to the numbers your new unit gives and forget about the old numbers.
