Incident detection

My 530 incident detection going off twice a ride.   Road mode.  I assumed a Garmin Forum someone from Garmin reads, responds.   I have only seen speculation from like consumers.  Is there a solution to the problem ?

  • Hi, you could try opening a support ticket with Garmin Support https://support.garmin.com

Maybe also check that your firmware is up to date.

  • I find it to be super sensitive, it goes off for me anytime I come to a sudden stop or big deceleration.  I feel like it is understandably similar to a crash where my speed goes from whatever to stopped very quickly.  So I try not to get too annoyed with it.  but it is definitely annoying.  I am in MTB mode.

  • I find it far too sensitive - Garmin's solution is to contact support. The only real solution is to turn it off and use a different device.

  • Other than actual upsets, I've almost never had it trigger unexpectedly. The 2 or 3 times it did were all sudden off-balance stops offroad, and never on-road. It definitely shouldn't be going off "twice a ride" during normal road rides.

I wonder if it could be a defective accelerometer/MEMS gyro.

If firmware update doesn't resolve, then maybe return to retailer as defective for a replacement (if within return window), or contact Garmin Support for RMA if within warranty. Otherwise contact Garmin Support about defective device to see what they can do (they sometimes have out-of-warranty options too).
