Activity corrupted after crash

On a recent century ride, my Edge 350 showed radar disconnected, froze and then restarted.  This happened in the last 4 miles of the ride.  When it rebooted, and I hit the "Road" activity profile again, it came back to the activity as if it was paused.  I resumed it and finished the ride.

When the activity was uploaded, it had the correct overall mileage, total time and average speed.  But only the last few miles of map data, sensor data and moving time.  So I essentially lost the all the data for the whole ride, except for the last few miles.

I checked the Activities folder on my computer and there was only one activity file for that day.  By the file size, it was definitely truncated.  A previous 60+ mile ride file was over 1000k.  This one was 102k.

Does Garmin store a working copy of the file somewhere else, that I can try to recover?  Anything else I can try to get the data back?  Anything I can do to try to prevent this from happening again?

I'm on the latest software version (9.75).  There is about half the disk space left on the Garmin.  I have never had this issue before.

  • Hi, I've had a similar thing happen once too. Unfortunately it seems there really isn't anything we can do to prevent it. Sometimes the device crashes, and sometimes it results in data loss. It's been very rare in my experience though -- only 1 data loss incident.
