Position value gets dropped mid ride

I've had this happen twice now -- I get home, and my distance looks correct, but when I go to view the map of my ride, it looks like only half the ride the position is recorded.

You can see here where the position data is dropped suddenly. Any ideas?

In garmin connect I can see my Speed for all 24km but the map only covers about 12km of it: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/12098022345

  • You most likely are losing GPS signal, but if a speed sensor is being used speed and distance would still be recorded.

FYI - Your account is set to private so the route isn’t visible to anyone else. It’s better to directly post a copy of the activity file if necessary.

It makes sense that it got the data from the speed sensor and why it at least got that data. I suspect the GPS part froze up because it stopped mid-ride, but nothing on the display looked off.

I did also notice that my watch couldn't connect for heart rate which I've had happen before and as I think about it I think the last time I had this issue the watch also wouldn't connect.

I have a few fundraiser rides coming up and just want the proof but might do a double record on my edge and watch.

    Thanks

  • OK. I don't think it's a simple loss of GPS signal, otherwise there would be a straight line on the map filling in the missing data. Something else has caused the problem. Posting the actual fit file might provide more clues.
