Activities remain on device after deleting everything from Activities folder

Ever since I have owned Garmin Edge products (500, 510, 530) I have had the practice of every few months hooking up to computer via USB and backing up all files in the "Activities" folder.  Then I delete all the files in the Activities folder on the Edge unit.  I did this today on my 530, but when I navigate to my history - All Activities it still shows about 30 activities.  Some go all the way back to 2021 when I got the 530.  The most recent is from April 2023.  I confirmed after this that the Activities folder is empty when I hooked back up to computer.  I told computer to show hidden files and still nothing in the Activities folder. Where are these activities living on my Edge 530 if they're not in the Activities folder?  Should I keep them or delete them?

Additional detail: when I look at these activities, there are only Summary, laps, and upload options available for them.  Summary appears to have all the info, but Source says "Garmin Edge 51".

  • So the Edge also has activity summary data that uses as part of load tracking and trueup features.

These files are in the Garmin\Summary folder. These summaries will show as activities when looking at activities on the unit.

  • Thanks . I have plenty of storage available on my Edge so I'll leave them alone if they're used for other metrics.  It was surprising to see activities showing up after I had just deleted everything.

  • , I recently ran into the exact same issue.  All of the "leftover" activities appeared to be from my Instinct watch but the activities were on the 530.  There were only a few that I had created when playing with the watch when it was new.  I simply deleted them directly from the Edge since they were about a year old.  It didn't seem to harm any metrics that I could see.  Would deleting them really change anything once the true-up has been completed?

  • I'm not sure if they are processed once on import only or if they are referenced after their initial import. They are there so you get a consolidated view of activities done across all your Garmin devices.

When you register a new device or re-register an existing device with Garmin Connect then something like the last 3 months worth of activities and pulled into the Summary data.

  • Thanks.  I'm going to make the logical assumption that once the TrueUp has happened, that it shouldn't matter if I delete them.  Just as deleting any activities doesn't delete them from Garmin Connect.  I'll likely hedge my bets and let them age at least 6 months or so the next time my Instinct lands them in the 530.  Thanks for the input.
