Flogging the grade calculation question

 Why does my Edge 530 display one grade % while riding but a different one (i.e. - not as high) in the ride profile? Annoying that grade is not shown in the Garmin Connect profile. Using Elev Corrections seems to agree with the profile results, but I swear that was a steeper hill!

    The elevation data in the profile is taken from the course file so is dependant on what created the file.  The gradient shown in the data field is calculated by the unit while you are riding and is nothing to do with anything in the course file of the route.

    The grade the unit shows is at a higher resolution. The elevation in the profile might be measured at every 100ft.  That will miss grade changes that occur within that distance. That is, the profile grade may be less accurate.

    Keep in mind that the device gives you grade without a profile.
