Edge 530 GPS losing GPS signal and regularly 'updating GPS firmware'

Hi all,

As said in the title, my issue is my Edge 530 is recently having a lot of trouble maintain GPS signal. It'll be ok, then it'll inform me it's lost signal. If I wait a while (~5mins) it will reconnect, but then lose them again quickly. Simultaneously, I am getting the 'Updating GPS Firmware' splash screen appearing - it often seems to get stuck partway through since the progresses number stops and then it will just go back to the main GPS screen.

I would hazard a guess that these two issues are related! However I cant figure out how to reflash/reinstall a clean copy of the GPS firmware, to ensure its installed correctly. Any suggestions or help? I see a few other forums posts like this over the past 5 years or so with different Edge devices but no obvious improvements.

So far I have:

  • Connected to PC and ensured is up-to-date vis Garmin Express software
  • Connected and synced via phone bluetooth/Garmin Connect app
  • Done a factory reset and then followed the above two steps
  • Tried running as just 'GPS' as well as 'GPS+GLONASS' and 'GPS+GAEILLO'
  • Note - running Edge Firmware 9.75

What else can I do? Is there a way I can manually install the GPS firmware onto the unit?

Thanks,

John
