Start of ride ignored

Yesterday after my ride was uploading to Strava and Komoot I discovered the first 0.6 miles was missing. I had started the ride on the 530 as I set off and did not stop it until I paused for a snack an hour later. Why did this happen ?

Did you have GPS lock before you started? If you didn't it could have taken the 0.6 miles before it found the satellites and knew where it was.

Always make sure you have GPS lock before starting.

Suppose that can have been the issue but the 530 had been switched on for a good while before I set off as I spun the pedals before mounting to ensure it had picked up the cadence sensor which otherwise is a typical failing of it, timing out on that before it has found that senor, ensured the Varia had been picked up and then wheeled the bike from my back yard to front before mounting and setting the ride going.
