No resistance change on smart trainer when following course

Hi all

Apologies in advance if this issue has been addressed previously but I've been unable to locate anything of relevance using the search function.

I have a Jet Black Volt smart trainer which in addition to using 3rd party apps such as Rouvy etc, I'd like to utilise in following a course I've ridden outdoors. The display shows the map, my position on it, and the gradient map and this is all accurate. However, the gradient is not simulated on my trainer, as in the resistance doesn't change at all.

I have no similar issue in terms of resistance when using Rouvy etc.

Has anyone else experienced this or may be able to provide a solution?

Thank you.

  • During the 20.xx 1040 beta I did a lot of tests (more than 60 indoor trainer rides) and frequently recorded the ANT RX/TX logs. I correlated the observed trainer disconnects with event in the logs to the second. I demonstrated that when the "Trainer Connected" messages occurred (presuming they were preceded by a un-announced disconnect) the trainer stopped transmitting any changes in resistance in response to grade changes. The trainer was only reset if I manually disabled / re-enabled the trainer "sensor" (possible with the x40s but not x30s.

The relevant bit in a very long beta testing report is below but scan the whole beta test report if you want.

As it observed the disconnects improved during the mid beta versions and disappeared in the later versions, still good now.

As there is no feedback from Garmin and there was never any mention of the trainer issue correction in the change logs I don't know if it was actually "fixed", was an accidental consequence of some other change or if I am completely deluded ?

Unfortunately no joy on the x30 but maybe the current x.81 beta on the x30 ??

PS My 530 and 1040 never disconnected from my speed or cadence sensors while riding outside, only ever from the trainer while indoors.
