Updating firmware on old Bkool Smart Pro to support ANT+ FEC

I am posting this so other people can find, because it took a bit of searching for me to figure this out.

I bought a BKOOL Smart Pro for cheap to use as an indoor trainer with my Edge 530, but I couldn't add it as an ANT+ trainer because it had old firmware. BKOOL has discontinued it's hardware and you can't use their software for firmware updates on their trainers. However, a spanish cycling forum had a way to do the update that I'm sharing here.

FYI - my Smart Pro was originally running the 3.10 firmware, but I was still able to update it to 3.25.

This process needs to be done on a Windows computer

  1. Download the and unzip this ZycleDFU folder from: bkool-public.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/ZycleDFU /ZycleDFU.zip
  2. Make sure bluetooth is on for your computer, but don't pair with the trainer.
  3. Insert the ANT+ USB into the computer.
  4. Power on the BKOOL trainer.
  5. Open the "Reflash" file in the folder.
  6. A terminal window will open up and you can watch the progress of the firmware being written to the trainer. The trainer might make some noises too. If for some reason the process ends with an error, try it again (it took two tries for me).

After this process I can add the BKOOL as a smart trainer on my Edge 530.
